What will my child's day look like this year?
Our day starts promptly at 8:00. please make sure your child is in school on time so they do not miss the beginning of a lesson.
here is a basic outline of our daily schedule:
Do the kids have snack time?
We will have snack every day around 9:30. Please send your child in with a healthy snack as I do not provide classroom snack.
Does my child have homework?
Students are expected to practice their math facts on a CONSISTENT basis until they are fluent with them. There will be activities sent home for those who need some extra practice. it is imperative that kids know their single digit MULTIPLICATION and division facts fluently so that they can be successful with computing larger numbers.
students will be given a math packet with review skills and fact practice. this packet is due back on thursdays.
ixl skills (which are also worked on during the day in school) are due every friday
Students should also be practicing their vocabulary words on a regular basis at home (see below)
How does spelling/vocabulary work in our classroom?
students are responsible for 20 vocabulary words. they have 2 weeks to practice these words as tests are given on a bi-weekly basis. students do have opportunities during the day to practice but should also be practicing them at home on a regular basis! Our vocabulary words can be found on quizlet - a tool to help them practice online at home!
Can I place Scholastic Book orders?
Absolutely!! I will be sending home scholastic book orders monthly. You can either send the order form back in with a check or you can place your order online. Please do not send in cash!
When are my parent/teacher conferences?
Fall conferences will be held on November 8th and 13th and 15th. If you have any concerns before our conference, please contact me immediately!
What New York State tests will my child be taking this year?
This year your child will be taking an ELA, Math and Science test. The ELA state test is a two part test. Day one is usually all multiple choice, day two will be multiple choice, short response and extended response questions. The dates for the tests this year will be:
Ela: April 11th through the 13th
Math: May 1-3
The science test will be sometime in late May between the 20th and 29th. More information will come out regarding testing as the time approaches.
Can I send in a birthday treat with my child?
You are welcome to send your child in with a treat to share on their birthday. We have 19 students in our class. Your child will be able to share their snack with others in the building at the end of the day if they would like.
